Security Systems Design Engineer

 

DESCRIPTION: Involved with the design, development and installation of physical security enhancements and command and control projects focusing on Electronic and Physical Security Systems. Responsible for working with clients to plan, manage, design and supervise the installation of these projects. Will coordinate with other staff engineers as needed to design, integrate and install Electronic Access Control, CCTV, Intrusion Detection, Mass Notification, C4I, and communications systems.. Responsible for development of baseline engineering documentation (SEP, PMP, requirements, etc.), Installation Design Plans, Bills of Material, and assisting the Project Manager in costing the associated installation efforts. Travel and on-site engineering support for installation efforts may be required. Will be involved with some or all of the following general job activities:
•undertaking technical and feasibility studies and site investigations;
•developing detailed designs;
•providing technical direction to installation personnel;
•technical lead for all projects, coordinating efforts with the project manager;
•thinking creatively to resolve design and development problems;
•adapting all relevant requirements around issues such as building permits, environmental regulations, and good engineering practices and safety on all work assignments;

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: A bachelors degree in Engineering is required, Electrical Engineering preferred. Four years experience with similar tasks required; six years desired. Experience with electronic physical security systems a plus.  Must be fully able to work with various types of engineering drawings, including block diagrams, wiring diagrams, power flow diagrams and various types of structural plans. Proficiency with AutoCAD required.  Applicant must be eligible for, or able to obtain, the appropriate personnel clearance required for this position.

 
DESIRE SKILLS: Must understand the systems engineering process and the preparation of associated design and baseline engineering documentation. Must be able to use MS Project and be able to schedule major tasks. Desire experience with Lenel, AMAG, Pelco, Bosch and/or Cardkey. Must be able to write clearly and concisely to produce a variety of engineering planning documentation and reports.  Must be able to communicate well with persons at all levels of the engineering process, from technicians to senior customer staff. Able to make effective presentations to customers and senior management.
